Voicemail savings tips

To save money it may be a good idea to switch off your voicemail before leaving Iceland. This is because every time someone leaves a message on your voicemail, you’re charged at the same rate as for a received call when you’re abroad. You can disable your voicemail at our self-service website (link below) or by calling our Service Centre at 800 7000.

Savings tips for phone use abroad

It’s often cheaper for you to receive a call from Iceland than to make the call yourself from abroad. Even when you pay for the received call, the charge is lower than if you make the call. Before going abroad, check prices and roaming agreements as it may vary between countries

BlackBerry abroad

If you set the “Auto More” option on your BlackBerry to “No”, it only downloads and displays the first 2 KB of each mail. You can then download the rest of the message if needed.
Select: Messages -> Options -> General Options -> Auto More = “No” (The default setting is “Yes”).

Texting abroad

Texting (SMS messaging) can be a great option, but keep in mind that when you’re abroad its cost is greater than within Iceland. Calling may actually be a cheaper option than sending many text messages.

MMS use abroad

Please keep in mind that MMS messaging is a data service, so sending large MMS messages between countries can be costly.

Data usage abroad

Data usage abroad is not included in our 3G subscription package and is charged for separately. Rates for data usage abroad vary by country and service provider – so be sure to check out the rates before setting off on your trip.

Calls between Icelandic phones abroad

When calling from one Icelandic mobile phone abroad to another, the caller is charged for the part of the call from the foreign country to Iceland – and the person receiving the call is charged for the part from Iceland to the other country. In other words, the call is first routed to Iceland and then back overseas like an international call.

Service Centre

You can call our Service Centre from abroad at +354 550 9200. Please note that such calls from outside Iceland are not free of charge.
